Police are investigating allegations of sexual harassment against a secondary school teacher in Nicosia, following a complaint filed by a pupil’s mother last Wednesday.

The pupil provided a videotaped statement to police officials last Friday, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The Police Office for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse sent a letter to the Ministry of Education on the same day, requesting the accused teacher be suspended to prevent potential interference with the ongoing investigation.

A source clarified that the case involves “sexual harassment” rather than “abuse” when questioned about the nature of the allegations.

Education authorities have already initiated relevant procedures, with the Educational Service Commission being notified about the teacher’s pending suspension, an official source said.
