A wildfire erupted in the Arodes community in the Akamas district, with crews working to contain flames burning out of control in scrubland near Panagia Chrysospiliotissa between Arodes and Kathikas villages.
The fire is showing signs of escalating significantly, according to the first information from the area, burning wild vegetation and trees. The blaze does not currently threaten the community’s residential area.
Fire service units from Paphos, Polis Chrysochous and rural stations have responded to the scene, whilst the community authority is deploying its own resources to assist with containment efforts.
Two aircraft are also being deployed to the area to support firefighting operations.

The outbreak comes as Cyprus continues to manage the aftermath of devastating wildfires in Limassol that killed two people and destroyed dozens of homes, with police investigating potential arson in that incident.
