Police in Limassol are investigating an assault, actual bodily harm, possession of offensive weapons and malicious damage after a 23-year-old was attacked outside a kiosk and a masked group later damaged a police patrol car at the scene.

The 23-year-old was attacked at around 9pm last night outside a kiosk in the Agios Nikolaos area of Limassol by five people, who hit him and then fled, according to information under investigation. He was taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, and police were called to the scene.

When a patrol car arrived, around ten people wearing hoods and helmets moved aggressively towards officers. One of them struck the patrol car with a bat, damaging the windscreen, before the group fled the scene.

Medical examinations found the 23-year-old had bruises and grazes on various parts of his body. He received first aid and was discharged.

The Minor Offences Department and Limassol CID are continuing their investigation, and are examining whether the same people were behind both the initial attack on the 23-year-old and the later confrontation with police.
