A 16-year-old boy who was kicked and beaten by a group of other minors in Latsia on Friday night gave a statement to Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators on Monday.
A police source said arrest warrants could be issued as early as Monday night or Tuesday.
The boy suffered a broken nose and bruising to several parts of his body.
The warrants would be for people alleged to have violently beaten him, the police source said. Police said the law on children in conflict with the law would apply both to the taking of statements and to other steps in the case.
Because the boy is a minor, his statement was taken in line with all the required protocols, with guardians or other people present for his protection. Investigators will study it before deciding on their next steps.
A close family member reported the incident to police earlier on Monday. A video of the attack had been circulating on social media.
Police have the video and are studying it to identify those involved, in case the boy does not know some of them, philenews understands. Footage from the area is also being examined.
According to information, the boy appears to have gone to a meeting to settle personal differences, where he was attacked. He fell to the ground and a group began kicking him. When he managed to get up, he was attacked again and spat on.
