This morning, as part of his two-day official visit to Cyprus, the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Municipality of Nicosia.
The German President arrived, accompanied by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, at 11:30 am at the Nicosia Municipality, where they were greeted by the Mayor of Nicosia, Constantinos Yiorkadjis.
Subsequently, Mr. Steinmeier greeted the members of the municipal council and proceeded to the top floor of the building, where he was shown various points constituting the Green Line, overlooking the horizon of the old city, both free and occupied.
A walking tour followed along the streets surrounding the municipality, during which Mr. Yiorkadjis referred to the community of startups that has developed within the walls of the city, while President Christodoulides pointed out checkpoints and the guard post encountered along the route, indicating points related to their history and current configuration.
Additionally, the three men had a brief discussion with members of the CYENS Excellence Center, whose building is located just behind the Nicosia Municipality and in which the Municipality participates as a partner.
Concluding the tour, Mr. Steinmeier departed with the remaining members of the German delegation for the rest of their scheduled program.
