New details have emerged in the case of escaped life prisoner Theodoros Theofanous during a court hearing in Paphos on Thursday, where authorities sought detention orders for two individuals suspected of aiding his flight.
Andronikos Tsappis, representing the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CIDI), told the court that police have received intelligence suggesting the 42-year-old fugitive is armed with a pistol and has no intention of surrendering.
According to Tsappis, testimonies indicate that Theofanous, known as the “hairdresser”, had planned his escape days before being informed of the exact date and time of his transfer to Choletria village for a family visit.
Police believe the escapee’s ultimate goal is to flee to Colombia via the occupied areas of Cyprus and Istanbul, with assistance from specific individuals.
Authorities speculate that the choice of a Latin American destination may be linked to limited extradition possibilities to Cyprus.
The court hearing focused on detention orders for Theofanous’s 68-year-old father and a 43-year-old man, both suspected of complicity in the escape plot.
