Makarios Drousiotis and Kyriaki Kyriakou face their first court hearing on Wednesday in the “Sandy” case, with the Law Office of the Republic having filed a total of 101 charges against them.
The hearing at Nicosia District Court is scheduled for 08:30. It marks the pair’s first court appearance since police completed their investigation and the case was registered. Prosecutors are expected to ask the court to refer the case for trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia.
According to a Law Office announcement dated 24 July 2026, the Attorney General reviewed evidence submitted by police on 30 June 2026 before registering a criminal case against the two.
The indictment includes a total of 101 charges, covering forgery, circulating a forged document, publishing false news and harassment.
The case was registered at Nicosia District Court, and the police Criminal Investigation Department served the indictments on both defendants.
The “Sandy” case originated with a series of publications by Drousiotis alleging corruption and sexual misconduct involving public figures, centred on messages purportedly exchanged between a woman using the pseudonym “Sandy” and former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou, who has acknowledged knowing her but denied all allegations of wrongdoing, philenews has previously reported. Bank searches subsequently found no evidence of funds moved abroad, and the Council of Ministers ordered the material sent to Europol for forensic examination. Police later announced that the messages were fabricated and forged and that the information they contained was false, a conclusion Drousiotis has publicly rejected while continuing to maintain that his own messages are authentic.
Following registration of the case, the court set September 16 as the date for the first hearing, when the case is expected to be referred for trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia.
