A 44-year-old driver who was involved in a traffic collision on New Year’s Day that killed four people on the Limassol – Platres road, is set to stand trial for manslaughter.

During a hearing yesterday, the verdict highlighted evidence, including expert reports and a video depicting the accused running a red light.

The accused is slated for a direct trial before the Limassol Criminal Court on February 1, charged with manslaughter, causing death by reckless or dangerous behaviour, and violating traffic signals.

Until then he will be held in custody.

Describing the incident as one of the most serious traffic cases in the country, the court’s conclusion underscored that the accused faces charges carrying a potential life imprisonment sentence.

The collision occurred at the traffic-light-controlled intersection of Yiannou Kranidioti and Ayias Anastasias streets in Limassol, half an hour into 2024. Two siblings and their grandparents died after colliding with an incoming pick-up truck while trying to turn right at the intersection.
