A family in Pareklissia, Limassol endured a frightening start to 2025 when a car crashed through their property’s metal railings and into their parked car before impacting their kitchen in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
The incident occurred around 7:00 AM when residents were awakened by a loud crash.
The collision caused significant damage to their kitchen, including destroyed plumbing installations, whilst their parked vehicle was severely damaged after being pushed into the exterior wall.
The driver, who was reportedly leaving a neighbouring property, abandoned the damaged vehicle in a nearby field after removing its number plates.
Police sources indicate the motorist later voluntarily presented himself at Moni Police Station, where he admitted to being the driver. Notably, the vehicle was uninsured.
No injuries were reported, though family members expressed relief that their children were not in the kitchen at the time of the incident. “We literally saw half our kitchen torn apart, with items falling from the counters”, the homeowners told Philenews.
The driver faces multiple traffic offences and will be formally charged.
Police are investigating whether alcohol or other substances were involved in the incident.
