Halloumi was the focus of Cyprus’s participation in SIAL Paris 2026, with special activities promoting it as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product at the international food and drink fair, which ran from 17 to 21 October. Twenty-eight Cypriot companies took part, in two national pavilions covering about 356 square metres.
In an announcement, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry said this year’s participation showed the dynamism and diversity of Cyprus’s food industry, combining established products such as halloumi with a wider range of local goods. It added that organised participation in major international fairs helps Cypriot companies expand abroad and explore new trade opportunities.
Halloumi
Thirteen Cypriot companies took part in the national dairy pavilion in Hall 7. Halloumi was promoted with signage bearing the name ‘Halloumi®’ and the EU PDO logo, and an entire side of the Hall 7 entrance was given over to it. Visitors could also learn about the cheese and Cypriot cheesemakers on an interactive touchscreen titled ‘Discover Halloumi’.
Other products
Another 15 companies took part in the second national pavilion, in Hall 2, showing products including olive oil, olives, honey, bulgur wheat, fruit juices, nuts, dried fruit, herbal infusions, coffee, frozen foods and vegan products. An interactive screen gave visitors information on the companies and their products, alongside a quiz aimed at introducing them to Cypriot food production.
The fair
SIAL Paris, held every two years by Comexposium at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre, drew 8,000 exhibitors from 130 countries and about 295,000 trade visitors this year. It gives companies a chance to present their products, learn about market trends and build business partnerships.
