Seven Larnaca schools on standby for foreign evacuees amid Israel-Iran war

Cyprus has placed seven schools in Larnaca on standby to accommodate foreign nationals evacuated from conflict zones as the escalation between Israel and Iran increases the country’s readiness level, according to exclusive information obtained by philenews.

Instructions have been given under the Estia Plan to put seven Larnaca schools – five primary schools and two secondary schools – on standby today in case foreign nationals evacuated from conflict areas need accommodation.

The escalation of clashes between Israel and Iran and the intention of foreign countries to remove their nationals from conflict zones has increased Cyprus’s state of readiness, as the island has been transformed since yesterday into an escape hub for thousands of people.

Civil Defence and the Ministry of Education have already inspected the schools, where beds will be placed in air-conditioned multipurpose halls if and when the need arises.

However, no mass arrival of foreign nationals through the Estia Plan is expected, at least for the next few hours, according to information received by philenews.

Nevertheless, due to developments, it was decided to activate this part of the Estia Plan so that the country is ready at all levels to provide necessary facilities to countries that submit relevant requests.
