Animal Party Cyprus has called on people to join a protest at Paphos Harbour on Sunday, 1 November, against the poisoning, shooting and abandonment of animals, demanding stricter enforcement of the law.

The party said it backed the peaceful protest in response to a call for collective action and real protection for animals. The protest starts at 4pm.

Poisoning, shooting and abandoning animals are illegal but still happen every day, the party said. It said existing animal welfare legislation, Law 46(I)/1994, must be enforced effectively, and demanded that the government and the authorities “adopt a zero-tolerance approach to animal abuse”, prosecute offenders more strictly and deliver justice for every animal that suffers.

It called on citizens, animal welfare organisations and anyone who cares about animals to join the protest.
