A house in Agia Fyla owned by heirs living abroad was allegedly taken over using an apparently forged tenancy agreement. A 42-year-old woman was remanded in custody for six days on Wednesday as Limassol CID investigates.
The woman, a Greek Cypriot, is the second person arrested in the case, after a 49-year-old man from Lebanon. Police are still looking for a third person.
The heirs learned through an estate agent that other people were living in the house, although they had not rented it out or given their consent.
Phileleftheros understands that the man named the woman in a statement to investigators. He claimed she and another person, the wanted person, visited him at his home some time ago. After a phone call with an unknown person, he said, he was given three names to include in a tenancy agreement, which he drew up on his computer on the instructions of the woman and the wanted person. The wanted person also told him they had paid the owner money to buy the house in the past, but the owner has since died, according to his statement.
The man admitted printing the agreement and filling in details dictated over the phone by someone who spoke Arabic. He claimed he did not write in the address of the house himself, though he said the woman had asked him to. He said he signed the document as a witness, and that the woman, who was named as the tenant, left with the wanted person, taking the agreement with them.
The woman reportedly gave her own account when questioned after her arrest. She said that in early 2026 she asked a person from Lebanon to contact the owners to arrange to rent the house. She said the man later contacted her and allegedly told her he had spoken to one of the heirs, who lives in Kuwait, and had obtained his consent to rent the property.
Several statements are expected to be taken in the case. Police are continuing efforts to find the wanted person and will carry out searches to locate the tenancy agreement, which is allegedly forged.
