The British Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced on Friday the largest seizure of illegal weight-loss drugs ever recorded globally, following a raid on a factory manufacturing thousands of injections with unauthorised pharmaceutical substances.
According to the announcement, authorities seized 2,000 syringes containing tirzepatide and retatrutide – drugs not approved in Britain for weight loss – along with tens of thousands of empty syringes and raw chemical substances.
The MHRA noted that this factory in central England is the first of its kind discovered in the country.
“This is a victory in the fight against shameless criminals who put human lives at risk by selling dangerous and illegal injectable weight-loss drugs to make quick money,” said Health Minister Wes Streeting.
