A Russian drone struck the Ukrainian town of Yahodyn about 800 metres from the Polish border overnight, while another drone hit a passenger train locomotive in the neighbouring Volyn region, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha corrected an earlier statement in which he had said the drone struck the Yahodyn border crossing itself.
“Russia’s barbaric strikes at the Ukraine-Poland border in Yahodyn are not just a continuation of its attacks on our state borders,” Sybiha said on X.
“This is Putin’s terror ‘knocking’ directly on the doors of the EU and NATO. Russian barbarians are at your gate, dear partners,” he added.
A spokeswoman for Poland’s Border Guard told Reuters that the site of the attack was 800 metres from the Polish border and that the border crossing was temporarily closed during the attack.
In a separate statement, Ukrainian Railways, Ukrzaliznytsia, said a drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train in Volyn, another Ukrainian region bordering Poland.
The company said the attack took place just 2 km from the Polish border and that no one was injured.
Ukraine operates several border crossings with Poland, through which a significant share of military and humanitarian aid from its allies enters the country.
