Manneken Pis statue in Brussels wears traditional Cypriot costume to honour Cyprus’s Independence Day

In a special ceremony in central Brussels, the famous Manneken Pis statue was dressed in the traditional Cypriot “vraka” (breeches), in honour of the 65th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Cyprus to the EU, Petros Mavrikios, and dozens of Cypriots who were present for this symbolic moment.

This particular Cypriot costume was donated to the City of Brussels by the Cypriot Embassy in 2010 to mark that year’s Independence Day. On other days, the costume is exhibited at the museum “Manneken Pis, a very European Brussels resident,” along with dozens of other national costumes of EU member states.
