Retail store owners in Limassol are expressing optimism ahead of Black Friday, with some having already launched discounts weeks in advance, while others are either extending the event over several days or strictly adhering to the single-day format with major discounts only on Friday.
Speaking to Phileleftheros, Limassol municipal councillor and representative of the city’s historic shopping district retailers, Kristis Demetriou, said that Black Friday has become well-established in recent years, with consumers now fully embracing the concept.

“Consumers begin researching products they want to purchase 3-4 days before Black Friday, checking prices before making their purchases”, said Demetriou. “This is completely normal, and consumers should verify prices. We encourage them to cross-check that price reductions are genuine and that there are no misleading practices”.
He emphasised his support for price monitoring and went further, stating that “any shop owner, merchant, or businessman who tries to mislead consumers should be reported. These are not times for such practices”.
Demetriou expressed optimism about Friday’s footfall, particularly in Limassol’s centre, noting that “increased traffic is expected and retail trade will pick up”. He cited favourable weather conditions and seasonal timing, explaining that “it’s the right time for seasonal merchandise, especially in clothing and footwear”.

Notably, while Black Friday traditionally focuses on electronic devices, in Cyprus it has expanded to all retail sectors, with some stores offering discounts for weeks. Commenting on this expansion, the retailers’ representative stated that “this is a global institution and should be held on the specific day for Black Friday to have meaning”.
Promotional discount signs have already been placed in shops along Anexartisias Street, with retailers having fully restocked their winter season merchandise.
