A meeting between Commerce Minister George Papanastasiou and Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEBE) officials this morning has yielded positive results for the launch of the e-kalathi price comparison platform, with agreement reached for a voluntary trial period beginning December 20.
The test phase will allow the Consumer Protection Service and retail sector stakeholders to evaluate the application’s effectiveness in helping consumers compare supermarket products based on quality and price across all available options.
Sources indicate that the Commerce Ministry will conduct a comprehensive presentation of the e-kalathi platform to retail sector representatives and major supermarket managers in the coming days. This will clarify system requirements and capabilities.
Following any necessary final adjustments, e-kalathi will be released for public use on a trial basis for 2-3 months.
The initial phase will include approximately 480 products, whose names and codes have already been shared with stakeholders.
The Commerce Ministry’s proposed December 20 launch date has been accepted by KEBE, provided remaining issues are resolved.
During the trial phase, supermarkets can voluntarily list their products on the platform. The system is expected to become mandatory by February or March, expanding to include more than 4,000 products.
