Concrete manufacturers offer deal to end three-week strike

Cyprus’s ready-mix concrete manufacturers have proposed adopting the construction industry’s collective agreement to end a three-week strike over overtime pay.

Kostas Kythreotis, president of the ready-mix concrete manufacturers association, called Friday for a three-month suspension of strike action to allow negotiations under a framework previously accepted by both sides through the Labour Minister’s mediation.

The proposal suggests immediately adopting the construction industry’s recently renewed collective agreement, which Kythreotis described as “a modern and balanced framework” already covering thousands of construction workers.

“It is crucial to find a solution that will unlock the construction industry from the deadlock of the past three weeks”, Kythreotis said in a written statement.

The announcement came as employers were preparing for a broad evaluation meeting scheduled for Monday by the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB).
