Unions suspend 48-hour state hospital strike after draft deal

Six unions representing staff at the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) on Friday suspended a 48-hour strike at state hospitals planned for 10 and 11 November, after the organisation’s board approved a draft renewal of their collective agreement.

The unions, PASYDY, the Cyprus Workers’ Confederation (SEK), PEO, DEOK, PASYKI and PASYNO, took the decision at a joint meeting after being told in writing that the SHSO board had ratified the draft agreement they received on 4 November. They studied the draft, which covers 2026 and 2027, before deciding to suspend the strike, they said in a joint statement.

Talks, however, are not over. The unions will meet the SHSO again on Tuesday 10 November to finalise the agreement and set a date for its signing.
