An anthropologist has examined part of a human skull that washed up on Savvopoulos beach in Dhekelia on Wednesday, and further tests will follow to establish the person’s sex and estimated time of death.
Data on people reported missing years ago and never found will be sought, and the British Bases are expected to work with the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus on the case.

A member of the public alerted the Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) Police at midday on Wednesday after finding something on the shore that resembled a human bone. Officers from the SBA Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to the scene and found a bone that appeared to be part of a human skull.

The Bases said there was no further information so far on the bone’s origin, how old it is, or when and in what circumstances it was found.
