A 44-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of sexual offences against his 58-year-old mother-in-law. His trial is expected to begin in February 2027.

The man denied all the charges at a hearing before the Limassol permanent Criminal Court on Thursday, Phileleftheros has learned. The case is being heard behind closed doors.

The charges are:

  • attempted rape
  • two counts of sexual abuse
  • defilement of a woman with a mental and intellectual disability
  • sexual harassment
  • indecent assault
  • psychological violence in the family

He remains free under restrictive conditions.

The case stems from a complaint the woman made to Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers about an incident that allegedly took place on 11 July 2026. It led to the man’s arrest.

According to her complaint, the man went to the house where she lives and committed acts that were investigated as attempted rape.

The woman reportedly told investigators it was not the first such incident. She alleged that he had recently been asking her to have sex with him, which she refused, and that he had committed other sexual acts against her.

Investigators hold material allegedly recorded by a third person during the incident, which is regarded as a key piece of evidence. It is expected to be presented in court if deemed necessary.
