The Department of Environment and the Game and Fauna Service have asked the investor behind a planned housing development at Trozena for further studies needed to complete their assessment. The request came on Wednesday, September 30, at a meeting of all the bodies involved, where the investor and his advisers presented the project’s master plan with the aim of moving the planning application forward and allowing a permit to be issued.
Phileleftheros has learned that the meeting agreed the project would be assessed as a whole and its effects considered cumulatively, rather than house by house or one development at a time, so that the environmental and other impacts that may arise can be evaluated together.
The additional studies concern technical issues that must be examined and documented, Phileleftheros understands. The investor’s consultants and environmental specialists accepted the requests and undertook to prepare the studies and submit them to the authorities.
Based on the information so far, the process is expected to move to its next stage, the examination of the planning permit application.
Phileleftheros has also learned that no work is being carried out on the site.
The meeting was held at the offices of the Limassol District Local Government Organisation (DLGO). Those attending included Giannakis Giannaki, head of the Arsos and Gerovasa-Trozena Community Council, Environment Commissioner Ilias Myrianthous and the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities, Charalambos Christofinas. Representatives of the Department of Environment, the Game and Fauna Service and the Limassol DLGO also attended, along with the investor’s representatives, consultants and environmental specialists.
