Drivers say row over cycling preceded Limassol rider attack

Two drivers seen in video footage of a food delivery rider being punched and kicked in Limassol on Friday have gone to police and given statements, claiming that a row had broken out over the way the rider was riding.

The rider has not yet come forward, police spokesman Vyronas Vyronos said, adding that police are investigating whether the attack followed a misunderstanding linked to a traffic incident.

The incident happened on Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue on the afternoon of Friday, October 2, and was captured on video published by RoadReportCY. No complaint was made to police at first, but they opened an investigation on their own initiative after the footage was made public.

According to a witness account obtained by RoadReportCY, the incident began shortly before the camera started recording. The witness said the rider was on his bicycle alongside stationary vehicles when one of the people in a car allegedly grabbed him by his delivery bag and pulled him to the ground. That moment is not on the video.

“Then they got out of the car and started hitting him,” the witness said.

The video shows the rider beside his fallen bicycle and equipment, with a black car stopped nearby. A physical confrontation follows and moves onto a traffic island, where the rider is punched and kicked. A second man then becomes involved.

The witness said the men left in the black car afterwards.
