Video shows food delivery rider punched and kicked in Limassol

A food delivery rider was punched and kicked in Limassol on Friday afternoon after someone in a car allegedly pulled him off his bicycle, according to video footage and a witness account published by RoadReportCY.

The attack happened on Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue. No complaint has been made to police so far, and the motive is not clear.

The witness said the attack began shortly before filming started, as the rider cycled past stationary traffic. Someone inside a car reached out of the window, grabbed his delivery bag and pulled him to the ground.

“Then they got out of the car and started hitting him,” the witness said.

That moment does not appear in the video and is described only in the witness’s account. The video does capture the confrontation that followed.

The footage shows the rider beside his fallen bicycle and equipment, with a black car stopped nearby. A scuffle breaks out and moves onto a traffic island, where the rider is punched and kicked. A second man then becomes involved.

The men drove off in the black car afterwards, the witness said.

Previous attacks

Delivery riders have been attacked in several incidents across Cyprus in recent years.

Last month, police arrested four people after a group stopped a 26-year-old rider in Germasogeia, attacked him with clubs and stones and made off with his motorcycle, wallet and phone. Police were also investigating an attack the same night on another rider, also 26, who was on his way to deliver an order in the Mouttagiaka area. Earlier that month, two men beat a 25-year-old rider in Erimi, in the Limassol district, and stole his motorcycle and a waist bag containing 100 euros.

In August, police arrested a 35-year-old man after attacks on delivery riders in Paphos left five of them injured and taken to Paphos General Hospital. Last December, a rider in Limassol told police that masked men holding sticks pushed him off his motorcycle, and that his keys and mobile phone were stolen.
