Rain, at times accompanied by hail, fell in mountainous and other areas of Cyprus on Thursday afternoon, offering a brief break from the heat in late August and confirming forecasts from the Department of Meteorology.
A yellow warning for extremely high temperatures remained in force at the same time, in effect from 1pm until 4pm, with the maximum inland temperature expected to reach around 40 degrees Celsius.
