Police probe possible accomplices after two Palestinians held in terrorism case

Larnaca CID is intensifying investigations into the serious case involving the arrest of two Palestinians, aged 32 and 38, who are suspected of terrorism.

Materials that can be used to make explosives, including ammonium nitrate, were found in two homes in Governor’s Beach and Kamares in Larnaca that are allegedly linked to the 32-year-old.

Phileleftheros understands that investigators handling the case, as well as services working with the police, are looking in several directions to establish whether the suspects had accomplices in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

Police believe they prevented attacks in Cyprus, as the quantities of materials seized are considered quite large.

During the day on Sunday, evidence was recorded and assessed, while the results of scientific tests on the explosives-making materials are also expected.

The two suspects, who are being held for 8 days, continue to refuse to cooperate with the police.

Investigators established that the 32-year-old is legally in Cyprus, while checks on the 38-year-old show he is in Cyprus illegally. Authorities believe he entered the territory of the Republic from the occupied north.

The two had been under surveillance for days and were arrested after a coordinated operation last Thursday.

Searches were then carried out at the home in Governor’s Beach, where police found and seized a large number of items that can be used to make explosives.

A search followed on Saturday morning at an apartment in Kamares, where police found a large number of exhibits, including ammonium nitrate.
