Paphos steps up security after airport evacuation

Relevant News

Paphos has sharply increased security measures across its vital infrastructure following yesterday’s surge of fear that forced a temporary evacuation of the airport and neighbouring communities.

Since early this morning, security forces have visibly reinforced the airport, the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base, and National Guard facilities. Both the number of personnel and the intensity of inspections have surged. At the Paphos air base, where Greek fighter jets arrived last night, passing travellers to Paphos International Airport can clearly see the deployment of air defence and surveillance systems in response to drone threats that reached Cyprus over the past 48 hours.

Heightened security is also evident across public areas in Paphos city and eastern Paphos districts, given their proximity to the air base and airport. Police patrols maintain a constant presence.

Despite the intensified security, the atmosphere in Paphos is far calmer than yesterday. Public services operate normally, and movement throughout the city and province has returned to standard rhythms.
