The military “court proceedings” in the occupied areas for five Greek Cypriots have been postponed to 10 September after one detainee reported severe health problems that were inadequately addressed during a hospital visit.
The Greek Cypriot, who is being illegally detained, complained of intense discomfort following yesterday’s proceedings, citing serious back and spine problems. His lawyers requested the “court” order his examination at a fully equipped hospital.
“Court” orders proper medical examination after inadequate hospital visit
Although the “court” issued the relevant order yesterday, it was revealed today that whilst the detainee was taken to hospital, he was examined only by nurses.
He underwent an electrocardiogram and chest X-ray, but no examination was conducted for the orthopaedic problem causing him distress.
The defence informed the “court” that their client was not in a position to follow the proceedings due to his medical condition. The “prosecuting authority” did not object to the postponement request.
The “judge” ordered his transfer once again to a fully equipped “state” hospital so that necessary examinations could be conducted and appropriate treatment provided for his specific health problem.
Five prosecution witnesses testify as total reaches 16
The next “hearing” has been scheduled for Tuesday, 10 September at 09:30, as the following days are holidays or the “judge” has other commitments.
During yesterday’s proceedings, five prosecution witnesses testified, bringing the total number to 16 witnesses.
A separate hearing for the parallel case at the “provincial court” in occupied Trikomo is scheduled to continue on Friday, 5 September.
