Online platform helps people reunite with animals lost during Limassol fire

An animal welfare platform is offering free services to help people reunite with animals lost during the fire in the Limassol mountains, which has burned over 120km2 of land and killed two people.

The online platform takemehome.com.cy provides a centralised service where users can register lost pets and report found animals.

The registered non-profit organisation offers free access to anyone who needs to post information about missing or found pets, allowing users to create accounts and upload details themselves.

“We offer a central platform where anyone can find and register animals that are lost, found, or available for adoption, so animals can find their way home more quickly,” the organisation told in-cyprus.

The platform allows both pet owners searching for lost animals and others who have found pets to post information, creating a database that increases the chances of reunification.

The deadly fire has burned through large areas of mountainous terrain, destroying homes and forcing residents to flee their properties, creating conditions where pets could become lost or separated from their owners.

Anyone who has lost a pet during the fire or found an animal in the affected areas can visit takemehome.com.cy to register the information and help people reunite with their pets.

Urgent appeal for foster homes, animal supplies

Meanwhile, animal welfare organisation PAWS Protecting Animals Without Shelter has issued an urgent appeal for foster homes for animals rescued from the wildfire zone. “We are urgently looking for foster homes for the animals that have been rescued or will be rescued in the following days from the wildfires in Limassol. If you can foster even one, please message us with your phone number, area, species and number of animals you can help,” the organisation stated.

PAWS has also published a list of urgent supplies needed for fire-affected animals, including dog and cat food, old towels and bedsheets, summer pet beds, travelling and recovery crates, water, cat litter and trays, plastic bowls, and cool boxes. The organisation said the list will be updated according to current needs.
