Civil Defence has issued public safety recommendations following a yellow weather warning for exceptionally high temperatures.

The Meteorological Department’s warning prompted the safety guidelines aimed at preventing heat-related health risks and minimising adverse effects from the heatwave.

Tomorrow’s weather forecast indicates mainly fine conditions with temperatures reaching 40°C inland, 32°C in western coastal areas, around 36°C in other coastal regions, and 31°C in higher mountainous areas.

Civil Defence advises the public to avoid unnecessary travel and heavy physical work under direct sunlight. Citizens should also avoid sunbathing, prolonged walking or running in the sun, and crowded spaces.

Recommended protective measures include wearing cool, comfortable and light-coloured clothing, protecting the head with a hat, and using quality sunglasses that guard against sun glare.

Dietary guidance includes consuming small, light meals rich in fruits and vegetables but low in fats, drinking plenty of water and fruit and vegetable juices, whilst avoiding alcoholic beverages and sudden temperature changes.

The force recommends using artificial ventilation means such as fans or air conditioning systems. Citizens experiencing health problems should consult their doctor and check on elderly relatives or others requiring care.

Weather conditions are expected to remain mainly fine through Friday, with temperatures staying above the average for the season.
