Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned US military strikes on its nuclear facilities as a “grave and unprecedented violation” of the UN Charter and international law, calling for an emergency Security Council session.
In a statement issued on 22 June 2025, the ministry described the attacks as “brutal military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities” and held the United States “fully responsible for the dangerous consequences and far-reaching implications of this egregious act of aggression”.
Iran accused the US of acting “in collusion with the genocidal Israeli regime” and said the strikes revealed “the depth of depravity that governs American foreign policy”. The ministry said the attacks occurred “in the early hours of the 10th day of Israel’s military aggression against Iran”.
The statement described the US action as a “flagrant breach of the UN Charter” and a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, calling it “a devastating blow to the global non-proliferation regime”.
Iran called on the UN Security Council to “convene an emergency session to unequivocally condemn this criminal act of aggression” and hold the United States accountable for violating international law.
The ministry also criticised the International Atomic Energy Agency and its Director General, claiming “evident bias in favour of warmongering parties” had “paved the way for this recent catastrophe”.
Iran called on the IAEA Board of Governors to immediately convene and respond to the “dangerous US attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities”, which it said were “under the Agency’s full safeguards and monitoring”.
The statement accused the United States of betraying diplomacy “in the midst of a diplomatic process” by supporting Israel to “impose a war of aggression on the Iranian nation”.
Iran declared it was “resolved to defend Iran’s territory, sovereignty, security and people by all force and means against the United States’ criminal aggression”.
