Israel began repatriation flights from Cyprus on Wednesday morning to bring home passengers stranded after airspace closures due to the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Thirteen special flights are scheduled throughout the day, with nine bound for Haifa and four for Tel Aviv, according to information from Hermes Airports. The flights aim to transport approximately 1,000 people who became stranded in Cyprus back to Israel.
Two flights had already departed by 9am, with the remaining services scheduled to operate during the day. The flight schedule remains under continuous review.
The Israeli government previously authorised the commencement of the repatriation flights.
El Al told Reuters earlier today that flights would depart from Larnaca, Athens, Rome, Milan and Paris and would be conducted “gradually”.
According to Israel’s Ministry of Transport, approximately 150,000 Israelis are currently abroad, of whom 50,000 have requested immediate repatriation.
