The Department of Road Transport has revoked roadworthiness certificates for Ford vehicles already under recall for Takata airbag replacements on Friday.
The action follows information received from the importer, Michaels Automotive Limited, indicating that Ford has issued revised instructions for “immediate immobilisation” of affected vehicles.
“The Department of Road Transport has proceeded with the revocation of roadworthiness certificates for these vehicles,” the department said in a statement.
Vehicle owners are urged to contact the manufacturer’s distributor in Cyprus, Michaels Automotive Limited, for further instructions regarding their vehicles.
The Takata airbag recall has affected millions of vehicles worldwide over the past decade, as the defective airbags can deploy with excessive force, potentially shooting metal fragments into vehicle occupants.
The department has published details of the affected vehicles, though specific models were not listed in the announcement.
