Award-winning Cypriot artist Nitsa Hadjigeorgiou will present her latest collection “Memories from the Present” at Gloria Gallery in Nicosia from April 29 to May 17, featuring works created during an intensive 18-month creative period.
The exhibition, which opens on Tuesday, April 29, at 19:30, will be inaugurated by Pavlos Paraskevas, philologist and former Director of Cultural Services.
Hadjigeorgiou’s new collection is characterised by diverse techniques, colour palettes and subject matter, with many pieces begun years or decades ago and recently revisited with a contemporary perspective.

Born in Famagusta, Hadjigeorgiou graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts on scholarship, where she studied under renowned artists including Yiannis Moralis and Pantelis Prevelakis.

This exhibition follows her major retrospective in 2022, organised by the Cultural Services of the Deputy Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth and the Municipality of Larnaca.
“It was a personal need to revisit and renegotiate her own past,” according to exhibition materials describing her recent creative process.
With a career spanning five decades, Hadjigeorgiou has represented Cyprus internationally, notably winning a gold medal at the 1992 India Triennale for her works titled “Ecological Anxiety”.

She has exhibited extensively throughout Cyprus, Greece and internationally, including at the Alexandria Biennale, Cairo Biennale, and in exhibitions across Europe.
Hadjigeorgiou also served as president of EKATE (Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts) and worked as an art teacher in secondary education for over thirty years.
Her works are held in numerous collections and museums worldwide.
