Authorities at Larnaca International Airport activated emergency protocols on Monday after receiving intelligence from Moldovan officials about a suspicious passenger aboard an incoming flight from Chisinau.

The aircraft was directed to a special security area upon landing, triggering a large-scale response from police and fire services, airport authorities said.

All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft whilst the suspect was detained for questioning by police, according to officials.

Government sources told philenews that whilst the incident required investigation, it was not a hijacking attempt.

The airport suspended operations for ten minutes, with one flight from Qatar diverted to Paphos International Airport. Civil aviation authorities implemented necessary security protocols before resuming normal operations.

Government sources confirmed that police are currently interrogating the suspect.
