Police have uncovered evidence of payments made to members of a group of 80 self-declared sovereign citizens who reject state authority, as part of an expanding investigation into alleged fraud.
Members of the group received payments ranging from 50 to 200 euros for helping individuals with problematic loan agreements, police sources told philenews on Tuesday.
Two suspects, a 62-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, are currently in custody, while police are searching for Costas Patsalides, 45, who posted social media content on Tuesday reaffirming his rejection of state authority.
The suspects face multiple charges including conspiracy to commit felony, possession of materials for forging official seals, publishing false news likely to disturb public order, impersonating public officials, and participation in a criminal organisation.
Police testimony in Nicosia District Court revealed the group targeted individuals struggling with loan repayments, sources said.
The investigation continues as authorities evaluate new evidence regarding the payment scheme’s connection to the broader case.
