Police arrested three football officials on Thursday in connection with alleged fraudulent player contracts at a second-division club.
The suspects include the club’s president, general secretary and a football agent, who were detained following raids by the authorities.
A district court approved an eight-day detention order for all three suspects.
Police investigators discovered evidence of dual contracts being used for player signings, with different terms being presented to the Cyprus Football Association than those agreed with players, according to Philenews.
Law enforcement officials found that at least one contract had been forged without the player’s knowledge.
The investigation is focusing on charges including forgery, circulation of false documents and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Authorities conducted searches at the football club’s offices as part of the investigation into financial crimes, but have not named the club or officials involved.
