Thugs with power

The new world leader’s intention to control Gaza and “clear” it formally establishes a toxic and dictatorial arc stretching from Washington to Tel Aviv. It’s an alliance of bullies, led by Trump, who feels he can simultaneously be friends with both Erdogan and Netanyahu.

And indeed he can: He washes his hands of Syria, just as he did in 2019 when he abandoned the Kurds to face Turkey and the remnants of jihadists alone, while for Gaza he advocates an even greater massacre and the completion of ethnic cleansing.

Cyprus, being under Turkish occupation, cannot be part of this cannibalistic arc. The excuse of national interests and supposed Western orientation warrants extensive debate, because Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, these suited thugs, cannot be the answer to the problems of an enslaved Mediterranean people.

Our apologies to Trump’s cheerleaders in little Cyprus, but we cannot rejoice at the vulgarities uttered in the White House.

The Gaza Strip, like the West Bank, is historically Palestinian land, just as Kyrenia is Cypriot land. So we can do without yet another American intervention in the Middle East.
