Cyprus’s mountain regions woke to a blanket of snow on Thursday morning as overnight snowfall swept across the Troodos range, bringing freezing temperatures and hazardous driving conditions.
Temperatures dropped to minus 6 degrees Celsius at the Jubilee Hotel Troodos and minus 7 at Chionistra peak, marking a significant shift from the unseasonably mild weather experienced in recent weeks.
The snowfall affected multiple mountain communities including Platres, Farmakas, Phini, Pelendri, Kyperounda and Spilia, transforming the landscape into what local authorities described as a winter scene requiring careful navigation.
Road authorities have issued warnings about icy conditions across the mountain road network, urging drivers to exercise caution and check road status updates before travelling.
The sudden cold snap represents a marked departure from recent temperatures, which had been notably above seasonal averages across the island.
