A photography exhibition showcasing portraits of refugees and migrants rebuilding their lives in Cyprus has been extended until January 31 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.
The “Face Forward …into my home” exhibition, featuring work by Yiannis Kourtoglou, is part of Nicosia’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2030 and the 5th International Nicosia Festival’s Parallel Programme. The project is backed by the UN refugee agency UNHCR and organised in collaboration with Greece’s National Museum of Contemporary Art.
The programme includes two key events in January. Irene Che, president of the Cyprus Survivors of Trafficking Advisory Council, will lead a seminar on empowerment and integration on January 23. The session will be conducted in English with Somali and French interpretation available.
On January 30, UCLan Cyprus associate professor Dr Nasia Hadjigeorgiou will deliver a lecture on human trafficking in Cyprus, examining how the island’s division impacts the issue across both communities.
The initiative also features workshops for primary school children, aimed at fostering understanding of migration through personal stories. Schools can book sessions through the theatre’s box office.
All events are free and will be held at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre foyer.
Further information is available via the festival website and box office.
