Political movement Volt has announced it will file a complaint with the Data Protection Commissioner over privacy concerns regarding the Ministry of Justice’s traffic camera fine payment system operated by Conduent Inc.
The movement said that while strengthening road safety measures is important, it should not come at the cost of exposing citizens’ personal data to potential risks.
In its announcement, Volt expressed deep concern over the “ease” with which an international company has been granted simultaneous access to the Population Registry, Road Transport Department records, and the Registrar of Companies database.
The complaint will ask the Commissioner to investigate whether Conduent Inc. has obtained proper authorisation to handle personal data from these registries, permission to upload this information to an online platform, and whether adequate data security measures are in place for both internal processing and web-based operations.
The complaint seeks to examine the security protocols for both existing internal data handling procedures and the new online platform processing.
