Authorities are searching for a rental car with local licence plates believed to be connected to the fatal police shooting of a 24-year-old migrant on Epiphany night.
The vehicle, bearing red rental plates, was captured on CCTV in the Aglantzia area and may be linked to the Potamia incident.
Police testimony indicates three vehicles were involved in the encounter: an unregistered Navara pickup truck, a rental car, and a vehicle with Turkish Cypriot plates.
Investigators believe the victim was shot while in the rental car by two members of the police anti-poaching unit. Authorities are now checking rental agencies to identify who hired the vehicle.
Four bullet casings were found at the scene. The officers involved, according to their testimony, immediately reported the incident at the Pera Chorio Nisou police station.
According to philenews sources, the forensic examination of the location where the victim’s body was discovered revealed no blood traces, suggesting he was moved there after death.
The victim, an asylum seeker with no fixed address, was found with approximately €500 and his watch.
Police leadership maintains the officers acted in self-defence, citing imminent danger. The Law Office has recommended against suspending the anti-poaching unit members, as all evidence, including casings and vehicles, is in investigators’ possession.
