A 31-year-old man was subjected to a racist and homophobic attack by a group of masked individuals in Nicosia early this morning, in what police believe was a pre-arranged ambush.
According to philenews sources, the victim was lured to the location through a social media platform, where he was confronted by the perpetrator and accomplices who had planned the attack.
The Nicosia CID investigators are examining the victim’s statement and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify suspects and vehicles.
The Cybercrime Unit is also working to trace the social media account used to communicate with the victim.
The incident occurred around 2 am when a group of 5 to 10 masked individuals assaulted the victim.
The attackers physically assaulted him while making homophobic and racist remarks, and stole his mobile phone, wallet, and car keys. The perpetrators also slashed the victim’s car tyres before fleeing the scene.
The victim was taken to Nicosia General Hospital by a friend, where he was treated for various injuries and bruises before being released. Police later recovered his car keys near the scene of the attack.
The investigation is ongoing, and while no suspects have been identified yet, authorities expect to gather sufficient evidence to issue arrest warrants.
