Police are investigating a robbery and hate crime incident that occurred in the early hours of today in Nicosia, involving assault causing actual bodily harm, malicious damage, and violations of anti-racism and xenophobia laws.
According to police reports, at around 2 a.m., a 31-year-old man was attacked by a group of five to ten individuals wearing face coverings in a Nicosia neighbourhood.
The assailants beat the victim with their hands and feet while making homophobic and racist comments.
The attackers stole the victim’s mobile phone, wallet, and car keys. Police later found the car keys near the scene and discovered all four tyres of the victim’s vehicle had been damaged.
The victim was taken to Nicosia General Hospital by a friend, where he was treated for various injuries and bruises before being discharged.
The Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) is continuing its investigation into the incident.
