Authorities have deemed safe the entry of investigators to probe the cause of a devastating fire at Paphos Desalination Plant, five days after the blaze destroyed the facility’s buildings.
Teams from the police, fire service, electromechanical services, labour inspection department and agriculture ministry entered the site yesterday to begin gathering evidence and conducting checks to determine the official cause of the fire.
As investigations continue, officials are developing contingency plans to address the significant water supply deficit caused by the plant’s destruction.
Officials stressed that the facility had provided approximately one-third of Paphos’s water supply needs, with this proportion increasing during the current off-peak tourist season.
Alternative water management strategies are being implemented to prevent supply disruptions to Paphos city and district, though this will inevitably place additional pressure on other sources such as dams and boreholes.
