Cyprus Post to begin accepting electricity bill payments

Relevant News

The Council of Ministers has approved a plan enabling residents to pay their Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) bills at post offices, particularly benefiting elderly citizens and those in rural areas without easy access to EAC offices or online services.

The Ministry of Transport announced that the new payment service will be implemented in 2024, with plans to eventually expand it to include bills from other utility providers and organisations.

Currently, EAC bills can be paid through multiple channels including EAC customer service centres, bank transfers, online banking, mobile applications, and postal orders.

The new initiative aims to provide an additional convenient payment option, especially for those who may struggle with digital services.

The move comes as Cyprus Post seeks to diversify its services amid declining traditional postal activities.

The department has faced increased competition since the liberalisation of postal services in 2013, with the COVID-19 pandemic accelerating the shift away from traditional mail services.

Cyprus Post continues to maintain its universal service obligation, providing basic postal services five days per week across the country, with 90% of first-class domestic mail required to be delivered the next day.

The organisation has also expanded its services through Citizen Service Centres (KEPO) operating at four district post offices and rural branches in Agros, Kakopetria, Lefkara, and Xylofagou.
