At the latest meeting of the Central Beach Committee (CBC) on 28th May 2024, the decision was made to revoke the Usage Plan of the organized beach in Argaka, on the grounds that a very significant term is being violated, the strict adherence to which the relevant Usage Plan for the beach was approved.

It is noted that this beach is located within the Natura 2000 area “Polis-Gialia,” the main conservation and protection target of which is marine turtles.

Since the previous summer season of 2023, the turtle nesting period, the Central Beach Committee had received a complaint from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, the competent department for the sea turtle protection program, that after on-site inspection by its inspectors, it was found that the term stating that “during the turtle nesting period, from 1st May to 30th September, all beach furniture must be removed from sunset until sunrise” is being violated.

The CBC immediately requested the competent Local Authority to take appropriate action and inform the CBC in writing, otherwise the CBC will be forced to immediately revoke the said Beach Usage Plan in order to preserve the turtle nesting.
