Four members of the organisation “Volunteer Doctors – Cyprus” have embarked on a mission to Egypt through Larnaca Airport, to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Dr George Makriyiannis, Dr Eleni Theocharous, Dr Andreas Kaouros, and Katia Christodoulou will deliver vital medical aid and extend humanitarian support to the civilian population in Palestine.
The mission involves the delivery of a donation of ten tons of medical supplies from the pharmaceutical company Medochemie to the Egyptian Red Crescent. Following this, the team will engage in humanitarian activities in the Rafah region, with a primary focus on aiding civilians.
Speaking at Larnaca Airport, Dr Eleni Theocharous emphasised the organization’s strong connection to the Gaza Strip, having undertaken 45 previous missions to the area.
“This time, it is our most difficult mission due to the conflicts and the frightening bureaucracy imposed by Egypt and Israel. The situation of the Palestinian people is beyond tragic,” Theocharous said.
She noted that the mission has secured 10 tons of medical aid. “We aim to create a medical practice in the area and we do not know how many days we will stay there,” Theocharous added.
