The administration and the teachers’ association of the Technical School of Paphos expelled six pupils on Tuesday for their involvement in incidents that left two other children injured and sent a teacher to hospital.
The first incident occurred approximately 15 days ago, during which two pupils were seriously injured.
According to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), one of the expelled pupils was involved in a separate attack yesterday, when he threw a chair at a teacher.
The injured teacher, after receiving treatment at Paphos General Hospital, has been discharged.
The school’s principal, Stephanos Eleftheriou told CNA that the altercation took place as pupils were leaving the classroom under their teacher’s guidance. Investigations are underway concerning a pupil who, reportedly, hurled a chair, inadvertently injuring the teacher.
“The pupil clarified to the school’s administration that there was no intent to cause harm but rather an impulsive action,” stated Eleftheriou.
In line with the school’s regulations, the six expelled pupils have the option to seek enrollment in another institution. Moreover, Eleftheriou highlighted their right to appeal the decision to the Ministry of Education.
